Questions Answered

Office Massage FAQs

Office massage is one of the most booked, best-loved employee benefits we offer — here's everything you need to know before booking.

Office chair massage is a short, focused treatment performed on a specialist ergonomic massage chair — fully clothed, with no oils and no need to undress. It's one of the most popular treatments we offer for offices and events alike. Sessions combine techniques adapted from Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu and sports massage, targeting the areas most affected by desk-based tension: neck, shoulders, back, arms and scalp. It's a unique, condensed approach designed to deliver maximum benefit in minimal time — in as little as 15 minutes, it leaves people visibly more relaxed and re-energised. Book a free consultation to see it for yourself.
A therapist arrives with a portable massage chair and sets up in a quiet corner, meeting room, or breakout space — no plumbing, oils or changing facilities required. Employees book a slot (usually 10–20 minutes), sit forward into the chair fully clothed, and the therapist works through the back, shoulders, neck, arms and scalp. It's simple to organise and even simpler for your team to enjoy. Ready to get started? Request a quote and we'll handle the rest.
For employees, it's a genuine, felt moment of care during the working day — a chance to physically release built-up tension in the neck, shoulders and back, step away from a screen, and reset. Many people tell us it's the highlight of their week. It's a small act that makes people feel genuinely valued, not just managed.
For employers, office massage is a highly visible, low-effort way to demonstrate genuine investment in your people. It's consistently one of the most appreciated employee benefits we deliver — supporting morale, engagement and workplace culture, and helping with staff attraction and retention. It requires no special equipment from you and causes minimal disruption to the working day.
Because it works — and it's practical. Office massage has become one of the most requested wellbeing initiatives among HR and People teams, precisely because it's tangible: employees feel the benefit immediately, rather than reading about it in a policy document. It's equally popular at conferences, exhibitions and branded events, where it draws footfall and leaves a lasting, positive impression of your organisation.
Quite a lot. Capacity depends on session length, the number of therapists booked, and how many locations are involved — but we regularly deploy several therapists at once, including across multiple floors of the same building or entirely different sites on the same day. Whether you need one therapist for an afternoon or a coordinated team across a multi-level office, we can scale to match. See our treatment calculator above for exact numbers, or talk to our team about your specific building or headcount.
We're based in London and deliver the majority of our sessions across Greater London, but we regularly travel further afield across the UK for larger corporate clients, wellness days and events. Let us know your location when you enquire and we'll confirm availability and any travel considerations.
Very little. You'll need a small meeting room or an open area of roughly 2m × 2m where the therapist can set up their chair, and a point of contact who can greet the therapist on arrival and share the schedule of bookings for the day. We bring everything else — chairs, equipment and all materials.
Chair massage is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. In the second and third trimester, it's generally suitable, and our therapists can adapt the technique accordingly — for example, working from a seated position rather than reclining, avoiding pressure on the abdomen, and focusing more on the shoulders, neck, arms and scalp. Employees complete a brief medical questionnaire before treatment so we can take this into account.
Possibly, depending on the individual. Every employee completes a brief medical consultation form before their first treatment, which lets our therapist check for contraindications and understand which areas need extra care or should be avoided. We always ask clients to flag any problem areas or concerns directly with their therapist before the session begins.
A therapist typically arrives around 20 minutes before their start time to set up. Each person completes a short medical consultation form on arrival to flag any areas needing extra attention. The massage itself usually begins at the back, then moves through the shoulders, arms and neck, finishing with scalp work to ease mental tension — often with calming music playing in the background. Afterwards, therapists can offer simple aftercare advice and stretches. Many teams go on to book weekly, monthly or quarterly sessions once they've experienced it once.
Every Templum therapist goes through a careful vetting process before joining our team — we check qualifications, insurance and relevant experience, and we also assess customer service skills and professional manner, because how a session feels matters as much as the technique itself. Having worked as complementary therapists ourselves, we know exactly what to look for.
No — minimal disruption is one of the main reasons companies choose it. Sessions run quietly in a corner, meeting room or breakout space, employees book individual slots so there's no group downtime, and our therapists handle their own setup and pack-down without needing support from your team.
Alongside chair massage, we offer desk massage — a shorter, typically 10-minute treatment delivered right at an employee's desk, ideal for busy environments like call centres where people can't step away for long — as well as Indian Head Massage, sports massage, Swedish massage and reflexology. We're happy to combine treatments within the same booking.
Pricing depends on the number of therapists, session length and frequency of booking, and we provide a fully itemised, bespoke quote for every enquiry — there are no hidden fees. In terms of value, office massage remains one of the most accessible, high-impact wellbeing benefits available: a relatively modest investment that employees consistently rate among their favourite perks. Request a quote for exact pricing based on your team.
Yes — it's consistently one of our most requested and best-attended treatments. Office massage tends to lift morale on the day itself, and many clients tell us it becomes something employees actively look forward to and ask for again. It's an easy way to make a wellbeing programme feel real rather than theoretical.

Desk massage at workstation
The Service

Wellness that meets
your team where they are.

Desk massage is exactly what it sounds like — our therapists come to each employee at their workstation and deliver a focused, targeted treatment without requiring anyone to leave their desk or change environment.

Using specialist techniques applied through clothing, treatments typically focus on the neck, shoulders, upper back, and arms — the areas most affected by extended periods of computer work. Sessions run from 10 to 15 minutes per person, fitting neatly into the flow of a working day.

Desk massage is particularly popular with larger teams where moving employees through a central treatment room isn't practical, and for offices where discretion and minimal disruption are priorities.

The Experience

More than a day off.
A day that changes things.

A Templum wellness day is a thoughtfully designed experience — not a loosely cobbled together set of activities. Every element is chosen for your team, your culture, and your goals.

It's also a genuine opportunity to bring people together. Many of our clients use a wellness day to host visiting clients, contractors and partners alongside their own staff, or to reunite colleagues from different offices, cities or branches for a shared, memorable experience — a natural way to build connection across a wider network, not just within one team.

Challenge

A fast-growing tech scale-up with high burnout risk and no formal wellbeing provision. HR wanted something tangible and budget-conscious.

What We Delivered

Monthly on-site chair massage sessions (2 therapists, 4 hours per visit), a quarterly mindfulness workshop, and a virtual coaching pilot for remote team members.

93% of staff participated within the first three months. Reported stress levels dropped measurably in the company's annual survey. The programme was renewed for a second year within six months.

London · Financial Services · 200+ staff

A financial services firm needed a premium employee wellness day to reward staff following an exceptionally demanding year-end period.

What We Delivered

A full-day wellness experience: chair massage, reflexology, a mindfulness session, and a breathwork workshop — staffed by five Templum practitioners.

Outcome

Employee satisfaction scores for wellbeing investment reached an all-time high. The firm has since built a quarterly wellness calendar with Templum as their exclusive provider.

London · Lifestyle Brand · Event activation
Challenge

A premium lifestyle brand wanted a wellness element for their annual consumer event that felt genuinely premium — not an afterthought.

What We Delivered

A branded wellness station featuring chair massage, hand treatments, and a calm zone with guided breathing audio — integrated into the event's overall design aesthetic.

Outcome

The wellness station was the most photographed area of the event. Guest feedback rated it as the highlight of the day. The brand has since incorporated wellness into all major consumer activations.

London · Creative Agency · 35 staff

Staff retention improved markedly over the following 12 months. Three team members cited the wellness programme specifically in their positive Glassdoor reviews.

Our Story

Where Templum
began.

The word templum has its origins in the Latin idea of a space set apart — a place of meaning, quiet and restoration. We chose it deliberately because that is what we want to create within the working day: a moment where people can reconnect with their own being, their humanness, and feel centred, cared for and valued. We believe the people behind the numbers, the teams behind the growth and the hardworking people who keep businesses moving deserve to be cared for too — not simply thanked when the work is done.

Therapist care in action

We know what sustained pressure does to a person — not in the abstract, but in the body, in the breath, in the way the shoulders carry years of unspoken stress. We built Templum Wellness because we believe that when you truly invest in a person's physical and mental restoration, something remarkable happens. They show up differently. They think more clearly. They lead with more compassion. And they remember who cared enough to make it possible.

We started in London because London's workforce is extraordinary — and because it is also, statistically, one of the most overworked, under-rested, and chronically stressed in Europe. We knew we could do something about that. So we did.

"We exist because the people behind every business deserve to be cared for — not just thanked. When people feel better, supported and valued, the businesses and communities around them benefit too."
Pay It Forward

Every booking
makes it count.

We believe that wellbeing should reach further than the boardroom. For every 12 sessions booked with Templum Wellness, we gift one hour of free treatment to a charity, community organisation, or cause of your choice. Your booking doesn't just benefit your team — it benefits someone else's.

You can also choose to sponsor our services as a gift to any organisation, event, charity, or community group. Whether you want to gift a wellness session to a local NHS team, a school staff, or a charity partner — we make it simple. This isn't a donation. It's a collaboration. Ask us about it.

"Do good. Feel good. Book Templum Wellness — and let's make wellbeing go further, together."
Our Philosophy

Wellness that works
for real people.

We don't believe in one-size-fits-all wellbeing. We believe in listening, adapting, and building something that fits the specific texture of your workplace and the real lives of your employees.

Our practitioners are among the most skilled and thoughtful in their fields. They are warm, professional, and genuinely invested in the people they work with. Many of them bring lived experience that makes them not just better at their work — but more human in it. That is not a side note. That is central to everything we do.

We hire, celebrate, and are proud of a team that reflects the real range of human experience and capability. The result is a company that doesn't just talk about inclusion — it practises it, quietly and consistently, in every session we deliver.

Our Values

What we stand for.

Human first

We treat every employee as an individual, not a headcount. Wellbeing that ignores the human is just performance.

Quiet excellence

We don't need to shout about what we do. The quality of our work speaks, and our clients stay.

Real inclusion

Diversity in our team is not a policy. It is our practice, and it makes our work richer for everyone.

The people
behind the work.

Templum is its people. Our team of practitioners, coaches, and specialists bring skill, experience, and genuine warmth to every session they deliver.

Everything you need to know about booking, planning, and making the most of your Templum experience.

Booking

How it all works.

You can book in three ways: fill in our Request a Quote form, email us directly, or email us directly at hello@templumwellness.com. We'll respond within one business day with a clear proposal and next steps.
For standard massage sessions, we recommend 5–7 working days. For wellness days, events, or larger programmes, 2–4 weeks gives us the best opportunity to staff perfectly. We do accommodate last-minute bookings where possible — please call or email directly.
This depends on your team size, the session duration, and the treatment length. As a guide, one therapist can treat approximately 10–15 people in a 3-hour session with 15-minute treatments. Use our capacity table on the Office Massage page, or ask us — we'll recommend exactly what you need.
Surprisingly little. A quiet corner, a breakout area, or a meeting room works perfectly. Each therapist needs approximately 3m × 2m. We bring all equipment and set up independently — we just need access to the building and a reasonably private space.
All office and desk massage treatments are performed fully clothed — no oils, no undressing. Reflexology requires the removal of shoes and socks only. Our treatments are designed to be comfortable, dignified, and accessible to all employees.
Absolutely. Chair massage is one of the most popular additions to corporate events, conferences, festivals, and brand activations. The setup is the same — we simply adapt the format and staffing to suit the event environment and guest flow.
Quotes are based on the number of therapists required, the session duration, the type of treatments, and any travel or logistics involved. We provide fully itemised quotes so you can see exactly what you're paying for. There are no hidden fees.
Virtual sessions are delivered via video call (Zoom, Teams, or your preferred platform). We send calendar invitations and joining details to participants directly. Sessions can be live-streamed to groups or conducted one-to-one, depending on the service.
Yes. All Templum practitioners are fully qualified, professionally insured, and vetted as part of our onboarding process. We take the safety and professionalism of every session very seriously.

Workplace Wellbeing

Why corporate massage is the most underrated team benefit

8 min read · August 2026 · Templum Wellness

Chair massage session in a bright modern London office
★★★★★

5-star rated by
London teams

Workplace Wellbeing exists for a reason: the research is unambiguous. Regular massage can support relaxation and help employees take a meaningful pause during the working day. And yet, the vast majority of London companies have still not introduced it as a staff benefit. Why?

The perception problem

For years, workplace massage carried a slightly indulgent reputation — the kind of thing you might find at a tech giant's campus in California, not in a busy professional services firm in the City. That perception is changing rapidly, driven by a new generation of HR leaders who understand the distinction between perks and genuine investment.

"The companies that retain the best people are the ones that treat those people as whole human beings — not just resources." — CIPD Wellbeing Report, 2023

What actually happens in a session

A 20-minute seated office massage — fully clothed, at your desk or in a quiet room — triggers a measurable parasympathetic response. The nervous system shifts out of fight-or-flight. Cortisol drops. Oxytocin rises. Employees return to their work calmer, sharper, and meaningfully more productive. For teams who can't step away from their desks at all, our desk massage service delivers much of the same benefit in even less time.

Employee visibly relaxed and focused after a session

At Templum Wellness, we see this every week

At Templum Wellness, we see the shift happen in real time — shoulders drop, breathing slows, and people leave the chair visibly lighter than when they sat down. During Workplace Wellbeing in particular, we work with HR teams across London to run dedicated massage days that give the whole conversation around stress a physical, tangible expression, rather than another email nobody reads.

The retention angle

In a landscape where the cost of replacing an employee is estimated at 6–9 months of their salary (Work Institute, 2023), physical wellbeing benefits are increasingly cited as a reason people stay. Massage is tangible. It is experienced in the body, not just announced in a policy document. If you're weighing up whether shorter, more frequent sessions or longer investment days work best for your team, our piece on the productivity paradox explores exactly that trade-off.

Onsite chair massage treatment in a bright office

Key takeaways

Corporate massage is not a luxury. It is one of the most evidence-backed, cost-effective, and immediately impactful wellbeing investments available to HR leaders today — and Workplace Wellbeing is as good a moment as any to bring it into your workplace.

Mental Health · Workplace Culture

The gap between wellbeing policies and wellbeing culture

11 min read · August 2026 · Templum Wellness

Team culture in action — a calm, positive workplace atmosphere
★★★★★

5-star rated by
London teams

Most UK companies now have a mental health policy. Fewer than half of employees say their workplace is genuinely mentally healthy. The gap between what organisations write and what people actually experience is one of the defining challenges of modern HR — and it's exactly what Mental Health Awareness Week each May is designed to put back on the agenda.

Policy vs practice

A policy document sets out intent. Culture is what happens on a Tuesday afternoon when the deadline is looming and someone is visibly struggling. The research is clear: psychological safety — the belief that you can speak up without fear — is the single strongest predictor of team performance (Google Project Aristotle, 2016).

"Wellbeing culture is built in the margins — the small, consistent acts of genuine care that tell people they matter." — Mind, Thriving at Work Report, 2023

What actually shifts culture

Visible, physical acts of care — like bringing massage therapists into the office through our Employee Wellness Programmes — signal something policies cannot: that the organisation is willing to invest real time and money in its people's bodies, not just their productivity metrics.

Therapist setting up in a calm office breakout space

At Templum Wellness, culture is the whole point

At Templum Wellness, we believe treatments are the easiest, most visible way to start a much bigger conversation about culture. During Mental Health Awareness Week, we help companies pair on-site sessions with quieter offerings — our Virtual Support programme brings mindfulness and coaching to hybrid and remote employees who can't always be in the room. The goal is always the same: making genuine care something people can actually feel, not just read about.

Team workshop discussing wellbeing culture

Leadership plays an outsized role here too — our article on what great wellbeing leadership actually looks like digs into exactly how senior teams can model the behaviour they want to see.

Remote doesn't mean unreachable: wellbeing for hybrid teams

7 min read · August 2026 · Templum Wellness

Remote employee in a calm, focused home workspace
★★★★★

5-star rated by
London teams

The in-office team gets the massage day. The remote team gets an email. This is the wellbeing imbalance that has quietly emerged in thousands of hybrid organisations since 2020 — and it's precisely the kind of gap National Work Life Week each October encourages employers to close.

The invisible divide

Research from the ONS (2023) shows that remote workers report significantly higher levels of loneliness and lower perceived organisational support than their office-based counterparts. When physical wellbeing services are available only in person, this divide deepens.

"Hybrid working is only equitable when the investment in people is equitable — in every location they work from." — ONS Remote Working Survey, 2023
Movement and mindfulness session supporting hybrid wellbeing

What forward-thinking companies are doing

The most progressive HR teams are combining on-site massage sessions for office days with virtual wellbeing programmes — mindfulness, breathwork, and coaching — available to the whole team regardless of location. Our Virtual Support offering was designed precisely for this, and pairs naturally with in-person Employee Wellness Programmes for the days your team is together.

At Templum Wellness, hybrid means everyone included

At Templum Wellness, we build programmes around the reality of how your team actually works — not the office it used to be. Around National Work Life Week, we often help companies audit exactly where the gaps sit, then design a mixed calendar of on-site and virtual sessions so no one is left with just an email. Culture, as we explore in the gap between policy and practice, has to reach everyone to mean anything.

Why wellness at events is no longer optional — it's expected

6 min read · August 2026 · Templum Wellness

Branded wellness station at a premium corporate event
★★★★★

5-star rated by
London teams

Event attendee expectations have permanently shifted since 2020. The conferences, launches, and activations that stand out are no longer the ones with the biggest budgets — they're the ones that genuinely care about how guests feel during and after the experience. It's also why so many brands now plan activations around days that already carry meaning — World Mental Health Day, National Fitness Day, Movember, and more.

The experience economy demands more

A Eventbrite/Skift report (2023) found that 78% of event professionals now include wellbeing or mindfulness elements in their programming. Companies that offer on-site massage, breathing workshops, or recovery stations consistently score higher in post-event satisfaction surveys.

"Guests don't remember the keynotes as clearly as they remember how the event made them feel in their bodies." — Event Industry News, 2023
Guests enjoying a wellness station with branded signage

At Templum Wellness, we build stations around the calendar

At Templum Wellness, some of our favourite work happens when a client ties an activation to a date that already matters — a Movember-themed recovery station, a World Mental Health Day wellbeing zone, or a National Fitness Day pop-up. It gives the activation a story worth telling, and gives guests a reason to genuinely engage rather than just collect another branded tote bag. If you're planning a full day rather than a single activation, our Company Wellness Days page has more detail on how we structure larger programmes.

What great wellbeing leadership actually looks like

Calm, thoughtful leader in a bright modern office environment

The best wellbeing leaders don't talk about wellbeing in all-hands meetings. They invest in it on an ordinary Tuesday. They're the ones who book the therapist, who notice who hasn't taken a lunch break in three weeks, who model recovery as seriously as they model performance — which is exactly the spirit behind Time to Talk Day each February, the UK's biggest day for open conversations about mental health.

Leading from the inside out

Research from Deloitte (2023) found that senior leaders who visibly prioritise their own wellbeing have teams with 23% lower burnout rates and significantly higher engagement scores. Wellbeing leadership is not a communication strategy — it is a daily practice.

"The most powerful thing a leader can do for their team's wellbeing is to take their own seriously." — Deloitte Global Millennial Survey, 2023

At Templum Wellness, we see leadership in the room booking

At Templum Wellness, it's often easy to tell which leaders take wellbeing seriously — they're the ones who sign up for the first available slot themselves, in full view of their team. Around Time to Talk Day, we work with leadership teams to open sessions with a short, honest conversation before the treatments even start, through our structured Employee Wellness Programmes. Want to meet the people behind our sessions? Visit our About Us page.

This connects closely with the culture gap we explore in the gap between wellbeing policies and wellbeing culture — leadership is often the missing bridge between the two.

The productivity paradox: why working less often means producing more

Employee taking a movement break — the look of restored clarity

The assumption that more hours equals more output has been comprehensively dismantled by decades of research. Yet the culture of overwork persists in most London offices — and the cost is real, measurable, and avoidable. National Fitness Day each September is a useful annual nudge to put movement and recovery back on the agenda.

What the data says

Microsoft's 2022 Work Trend Index found that sustained high cognitive demand without physical or mental recovery leads to a measurable decline in creative output after six continuous hours of focused work. The brain — like a muscle — requires recovery to perform at its best.

"Recovery is not the opposite of productivity. It is the foundation of it." — Microsoft Work Trend Index, 2022

The intervention that works

A 20-minute massage break mid-afternoon has been shown to improve cognitive performance scores by up to 20% compared to employees who took no break (Field et al., 2016). For teams who can't leave their desks, our Desk Massage service delivers a similar reset in as little as 10 minutes. The ROI on that intervention — for a team of 20 people — is significant and rapidly recouped.

At Templum Wellness, recovery is the strategy

At Templum Wellness, we don't see movement and stillness as opposites — a brisk walk, a stretch break, or a seated massage all activate the same recovery response the brain needs to keep performing. Around National Fitness Day, we often combine short massage slots with guided movement sessions as part of our Company Wellness Days, giving teams a full reset rather than a single fix. It's the same underlying logic behind why corporate massage is the most underrated team benefit.
